Title COLONEL MEIR MADE A PRIVATE.
Scope and content The highest ranking Israeli army officer to be found guilty of intifada related offences was sentenced today in a military court, Colonel Yehuda Meir was reduced to the rank of private, but not sentenced to prison, for ordering his troops to break: the arms and legs of suspected Palestinian inciters. Meir's trial attracted much public interest as the defense argument claimed that the orders originated from the former Defence Minister, Itzhak Rabin. The court rejected such a claim. Meir had mixed feelings on hearing the court's findings and he has yet to decide on whether to appeal.
