Moses] Cases, for the military success of Emperor Francis II of Austria during the War of the First Coalition (1792 - 1797), the first major effort of multiple European monarchies to contain Revolutionary France. Though the document itself is undated, it can only have been published between March 1, 1792, when Francis II ascended the throne, and January 21, 1793, the date of Rabbi Cases' death. After the French took Mantua in 1797, similar prayers would be recited on behalf of Napoleon Bonaparte, demonstrating the longstanding Jewish tradition that calls for prayers on behalf of the reigning monarch. With decorative elements.
