"מחברת רב-המכר, תולדות האהבה, טווה סיפור מקורי יפה עד כאב ועוצר נשימה על טרנספורמציה אישית של שני אנשים, עורך דין מזקין וסופרת צעירה, שהמסע לגילוי עצמי מוביל את שניהם לאותו מדבר ישראלי. ג'ולס אפשטיין, אדם שאישיותו ושאפתנותו מניעים אותו בעוצמה זה שישים ושמונה שנה, עובר מטמורפוזה. אחרי מות הוריו, גירושיו מאשתו זה שלושים שנה ופרישתו ממשרד עורכי הדין שהיה שותף בו בניו יורק, הוא מתחיל לפזר את הרכוש הרב שצבר כל חייו ומתרחק מכל מכריו. נחוש להנציח את הוריו, הוא טס לתל אביב ומשתכן במלון הילטון בעיר. במקביל, סופרת צעירה משאירה את בעלה וילדיה בברוקלין ומגיעה לאותו המלון בתקווה שמראה הבריכה שנהגה לשחות בה בילדותה יפרוץ את מחסום הכתיבה שלה. אך כשפרופסור לספרות בגמלאות מגייס אותה לפרויקט הקשור בקפקא, היא נשאבת אל תוך מסתורין שייקח אותה למסע מטפיזי וישנה אותה בדרכים שהיא לא יכולה לדמיין."- דש הספר.
