'בשעת ערב מאוחרת צלצל הטלפון בביתו של ד"ר יועז הנדל. הוא כבר היה במיטה עם ספר וכוס תה, אחרי שסיים לכתוב טור פרשנות פוליטית לעיתון. יומיים קודם לכן חיסל חיל האוויר את ראש הזרוע הצבאית של חמאס ברצועת עזה. על הקו היה אחד ממפקדיו במילואים, נוירוכירורג בחייו האזרחיים. אחרי שנים של עבודה משותפת מספיקה רק מילה אחת: "תגיע". והנה, ברגע אחד, כל המורכבות הישראלית: בעל הטור הבכיר מניח את המקלדת, עולה על מדים ומתגייס בצו 8, משלם את מחיר המילים שלו. הרופא הופך ממציל חיים למי שנדרש ליטול אותם. "בארץ לא זרועה – מסע ישראלי" מנסה לפענח את המורכבות הזאת, לפצח את הגן הישראלי, להבין את החיבור בין נער שגדל בהתנחלות לבין חברו ליחידה, שהגיע מקיבוץ של השומר הצעיר. להבין איך התחולל הנס שנקרא מדינת ישראל. זהו מסע פוליטי, לאומי והיסטורי, אבל גם אישי. הוא מתחיל במכונית משפחתית קטנה על כביש חוצה שומרון ונמשך בחוף עתלית, עם נשק ותרמיל כבד על הגב, לצד יוחנן הילברג מגוש קטיף שייהרג אחר כך באסון השייטת. בנגמ"ש אכזרית השועט לתוך עזה ובמרצדס של המודיעין הירדני בדרך לעמאן'. -- מהמעטפת האחורית.
