"הוא לא התכוון. היא לא התכוונה. אבל מתישהו בין המנה הראשונה לקינוח, הם הימרו על החיים שלהם. זהו יום הולדתה של מיה, ויואב מזמין אותה לארוחת ערב. בבית קפה. בקניון. אחר כך הוא אומר לה, בצחוק כמובן, שעכשיו, כשהיא בת ארבעים וחמש, הוא יכול להיות בטוח שלא תעזוב אותו לעולם. מיה נעלבת, קצת מתרגזת, ובלי לחשוב הרבה מציעה את ההתערבות: הם ייפרדו לשלושה חודשים כדי לבדוק מי באמת יכול למצוא מישהו אחר. להתערבות יש רק שלושה כללים פשוטים: שומרים את הכול בסוד. חברים מחוץ לתחום. לא מחפשים אהבה כי אהבה כבר יש. כך, בסתיו אחד, מחליטים שני אנשים שפויים בדרך כלל, לפתוח את כלוב הזהב של הנישואים המאושרים, ולצאת אל הבלגן שבחוץ. יואב ומיה מסתערים על החופש להתנסות בדברים חדשים, ובמשך כמה שבועות מממשים תשוקות שכבר הספיקו לשכוח ושוברים את הכללים אחד אחרי השני - וגם זה את לבו של זה" -- מן המעטפת האחורית.
