"השנה היא 1975 ורינו - שנקראת כך על שם עיר הולדתה במדינת נבאדה - מגיעה לניו יורק במטרה להפוך את העניין הרב שיש לה באופנועים לאמנות, ולעשות את זה מהר ככל האפשר. סצנת האמנות בניו יורק בשיא פריחתה - אמנים צעירים משתלטים על מבני תעשייה נטושים בסוהו והופכים אותם לבתי מגורים וסדנאות, מעלים הופעות באיסט וילג' ומטשטשים את הגבולות בין האמנות לחיים. רינו הנלהבת פוגשת קבוצה של חולמים ומספרי סיפורים שחונכים אותה בדרכם הייחודית. הנערה הפגיעה והאמיצה כאחת מנהלת רומן עם אמן בשם סנדרו ואלרה, צאצאם המנוכר-למחצה של בעלי אימפריית צמיגים ואופנועים איטלקית. כשהיא נוסעת עם סנדרו לביקור משפחתי באיטליה, מתוודעת רינו לאנשים המשתייכים לתנועה הקיצונית שהשתלטה על איטליה בשנות השבעים. עד מהרה מתברר לה שסנדרו בוגד בה, היא נפגעת עד עמקי נשמתה וכתגובה לכך חוברת לזרם הקיצוני של אותה תנועה". -- מן המעטפת האחורית.
