"מאז סוף השנות השמונים ניכרת חולשתה של הפוליטיקה הערבית בישראל ברמה האידיאולוגית וברמה הפוליטית-ארגונית. למשבר בזירה הערבית עשויות להיות השלכות מרחיקות-לכת על ההיערכות לבחירות לכנסת ה-14 ועל תוצאותיהן, ומכאן חשיבות הדיון בנושא. קובץ זה עוסק בהיבטים האידיאולוגיים של המשבר: השלכות ההסדר הישראלי-פלסטיני על ערביי ישראל, הציביון החדש המוקנה לתביעה לשיוויון זכויות, חידוד הסתירה, מזווית הראייה הערבית, בין הגדרתה של ישראל כמדינה יהודית והיותה מדינה דמוקרטית, העמקת המודעות הפלסטינית-לאומית של המיעוט הערבי והחרפת שאלת הזהות הלאומית. הסקירה בוחנת גם את אותות המשבר ברמה הפוליטית-ארגונית: שאלת דור ההמשך של ההנהגה הערבית, סיכום הניסיון של המפלגות היחודיות-הערביות כ"גוש חוסם", בחינת חלופות להשתתפות הערבים בכנסת, שאלת מינוי שר ערבי, הזעזועים הפנימיים שפקדו את המפלגה הקומוניסטית והמפלגה הדמוקרטית הערבית, התארגנויות חדשות לקראת הבחירות לכנסת הבאה והאילוצים העומדים בפני התנועה האסלאמית בשאלת ההליכה לכנסת. הסקירה מכילה קובץ מאמרים המבוססים על הרצאות שנישאו בכנס שנערך באוניברסיטת תל אביב 1994". -- מעטפת אחורית.
