"קרטר נודד עם אביו הארכיאולוג במסעותיו ברחבי העולם. סיידי גרה בלונדון אצל סבא וסבתא שלה. קרטר חי על מזוודות. סיידי מבלה עם החברות שלה. קרטר הוא נער מנומס וצייתן. סיידי מרדנית ובועטת. לקרטר יש עור כהה ולסיידי עור לבן. והם אח ואחות. מאז מות אמם, קרטר וסיידי נפגשים רק פעמיים בשנה — וזה בסדר גמור מבחינתם, כי הם לא ממש מסתדרים. אבל כל זה משתנה בבת אחת בערב שבו אביהם מחליט "להשיב דברים על תיקונם", וגורם לפיצוץ מיסתורי במוזיאון הבריטי. כעת נאלצים קרטר וסיידי לצאת יחד למסע שייקח אותם על פני ימים ויבשות, אלפי שנים בעבר, ואפילו אל מחוזות העולם הבא. יחד הם יגלו את סודות התרבות המצרית הקדומה, ואת הכת העתיקה שמאמינה שאין לסגוד לאלים, אלא להילחם בהם. אם לא ילמדו לשתף פעולה, סיידי וקרטר עלולים לא לראות יותר את אביהם בחיים — זאת אומרת, אם העולם לא יושמד עד סוף השבוע" -- מן המעטפת האחורית.
