משפט פיקטיבי הוא סיפורה של ספיר, כתבת בעיתון צהוב, המתלבטת בין אהבתה לאלעד, התעשיין הצעיר, הנאה והמצליח, ובין אהבתה לדן- עורך-דין נאה ומצליח לא פחות. זהו גם סיפור המשפט המתנהל נגד חברת סיגריות על נזקים גופניים שנגרמו למעשנים עקב שנות עישון ארוכות, והוא מגולל את המניפולציות שעושים אנשים רבי-כוח, השפעה וכסף כדי לעוות את הצדק לטובתם. אהבתו הטרגית של השופט כספי ופרשת סחיטתו, והידרדרותו של עורך-דין פליישר, שהעוצמה והממון-ובעיקר החשש לאבדם- כמעט מעבירים אותו על דעתו, מגלים את המתרחש מאחורי הקלעים של המערכת המשפטית. בצד חשיפת התככים שמאחורי הליכי משפט מקובלים, חושף א. רוזין את הנעשה במשרדיהם המפוארים של עורכי-דין יוקרתיים, מאחורי דלתותיהן הנעולות של לשכות השופטים, ובמערכת של עיתון. חייהם של אנשים צעירים- אהבותיהם, שנאותיהם ופחדיהם- על רקע מאבקי שליטה וממון, מתוארים בדרמה משפטית- אנושית מרתקת.
