Hungary, 1944-1945--the forgotten tragedy

Deals with events in and around Hungary from 18 March 1944 (the Nazi invasion) until the war's end in 1945. Pp. 73-105, "The Annihilation of the Hungarian Jews", dwell on the deportation and murder of the majority of the country's Jews. Eichmann arrived in Budapest some days after the occupation, claiming that the "Hungarian operation" would be the most successful in his career. The anti-Jewish operation was carried out quickly, with Hungarian acquiescence and collaboration. States that the Vatican tried to protest against the deportation of Jews from Hungary. Mentions rescue efforts by Kasztner and his aides, as well as by Wallenberg, Lutz, and Perlasca.
