Memoirs of a Soviet Jewish historian (1903-1989). Ch. 6 (pp. 232-287) and ch. 7 (pp. 288-316) deal with the period of the Second World War and the immediate postwar period. Describes antisemitism in Krasnodar and the Kuban region, to which he was evacuated in the fall of 1941. The enmity toward Jews - ranging from antisemitic pronouncements to cases of murder - grew when the front approached Kuban. Discusses the situation in his native Odessa during the Romanian occupation, and antisemitism expressed after the liberation of the city. During the propaganda campaign accompanying the "Doctors' Plot", Borovoy was also exposed to attacks.
