The interview focuses on Ada Malchik's family life from the 20's up to the end of WWII. Ada's father was born in Odessa, he moved to Bessarabia and studied in the University of Iasi. There he met Ada's mother. The couple lived in Bucharest and in Paris. Ada was born in 1928 and the family lived first in Romania but, because of the anti Semitism (she started to feel she was a Jew) they moved to Kishinev in 1940. In may 1941 Ada's father visited his parents in Odessa. When the war started they moved to Stalingrad to live with her father's brother. She and her mother went to Central Asia and settled in Shymkent (Kazakhstan) and her father served as a physician in the Army. The father left the Army in 1946, after the war. Ada Malchik studied Medicine in Czernowitz University(40% of the students there were Jews) and after the war traveled to work in Magnitogorsk, in the Ural. Thanks to a professor she understood she didn't have many chances to progress in the academic frame because of her national and geographic origin. She always spoke Romanian with her parents. As everyone they passed hard times when they escaped. School was difficult for her because she didn't know Russian. They had no contact with abroad.
