יד יערי, המרכז לתיעוד וחקר של תנועת השומר הצעיר והקיבוץ הארצי, הוקם בשנת 1983 כגוף המופקד על שימור וטיפוח הזיכרון הקולקטיבי של התנועה במובן הרחב ביותר. הארכיון מחזיק מיליוני מסמכים של תנועת "השומר הצעיר" העולמית, מראשיתה ועד היום, פעילותה הפוליטית ופעילות הקיבוץ הארצי. יד יערי בנוי על התפישה, שלפיה השילוב בין תיעוד, מחקר ופרסום במוסד אחד, מבטיח אינטגרציה מירבית בין הזיכרון ההיסטורי, המחקר האקדמי והתהודה הציבורית. מטרותיו המרכז הן לשמור על הזיכרון הקולקטיבי של התנועה וחקר דרכה החברתית והרעיונית של התנועה.‪
