Discusses the life and work of Yiddish-language poets Kadia Molodowsky (1894-1975), Yitzhak Katzenelson (1886-1943), and Mordechai Gebirtig (1977-1942), focusing on poems written between 1939-45. Views the poems as combating conditions in ghettos, camps, and in exile, where they were written. The poems express their authors' painful awareness of the threat of both physical annihilation and the destruction of memory.
