Ben-Gurion has been criticized by researchers, and by leaders of the Yishuv at the time, for refusing to acknowledge what was happening to the Jews of Europe during the Holocaust and not doing enough to save them. Analyzes the extent of information at Ben-Gurion's disposal, his knowledge of events, and internalization of the knowledge. States that he expressed fears that a terrible catastrophe was in the offing for the Jewish people from the time that Hitler came to power, but he did not foresee the Holocaust, and did not grasp what was really happening until the end of 1942, together with the rest of the Zionist leadership. From that moment on, he became involved with the various rescue projects. The claim that he did not know and was not concerned has no foundation. Examines rescue efforts (e.g. Transnistria, Slovakia, Hungary), attempts to rescue children, the question of organized protests, and the dilemma of Allied bombing of concentration camps.
