NUC pre-1956 gives source of author's name from: White, A. S. List of British regiments. [1955], p. 211. Date from Foreword. NLI copy has 55 original b/w silver prints of photographs, in various sizes, pasted throughout the book. Under each photograph handwritten captions in pencil were added. Two original flashes of the Squadron were attached to the inside of the front cover. Possibly author's personal copy. On pages preceeding t.p.: 7 original b/w photographs: "Jaffa Gate, Jerusalem" "The Jericho Road" "Turkish Prisoners Russian church on Mt. of Olives., "Natives ploughing at Latrun" "The Transport Entering Jerusalem" (Entrance of British soldiers to the Old City of Jerusalem through Jaffa Gate). On the verso of title page: 5 original b/w photographs: "Bethlehem" General view of Jerusalem from Mt. of Olives Jewish women at the Wailing Wall Jewish Cemetery of Mt. of Olives. Page facing p. 1: Four b/w photographs, among them: "A mug of tea near Latrun – Transport Camels going up the line – Latrun Village stands at the top of the hill." "Another view of the Mount of Temptation from Jericho" "The road we came down from Jerusalem". On p. 62: An original b/w contact print with the caption: "In Camp at Gaza". On the bottom of p. 64: an original b/w group photograph of the Squadron at Esdud [Ashdod - אשדוד] in 1917. On the back endpages: 6 original b/w photographs of various soldiers in the Squadron, riding their horses. |
