Pp. 17-49 relate the Holocaust experiences of Menahem, and pp. 81-98 relate those of Chana. Menahem was born to the Birenzweig family in 1926 in Warsaw, where he was later interned in the ghetto with his parents and sister. In summer 1942 his mother and sister were deported and killed. Menahem himself escaped from ghetto shortly before the uprising, but his father perished, probably on a deportation train. Menahem fled to the forest, and joined a Jewish partisan group. After most of the members were killed, he joined a Soviet group, and later the Red Army. After the war he returned to Poland, and soon left for Eretz Israel. Chana was born in 1930 in Berlin, to the Glazer family, of Polish origin. Her father was arrested several times, and in 1940 was sent to Dachau, where he later perished. Her two brothers managed to leave for Eretz Israel in 1940, with the help of Recha Freier. In early 1943 her mother was deported and killed, and her older sister perished as well. Chana, who was in the Berlin Jewish hospital with tuberculosis, was sent to Theresienstadt. She was interned in the ghetto hospital, and remained there until the liberation.
