Presents documentation from the years 1939-45 concerning the response of the Yishuv in Eretz Israel to the Holocaust. The documents include archival material, mainly protocols and publications of various institutions; articles which appeared in newspapers and journals; memoirs, testimonies, and speeches. Much of the archival material stems from Mapai, the leading party at the time, but other parties and organizations are also represented. The topics referred to include comprehension of information received about the Holocaust, rescue efforts, attitudes toward resistance and toward survivors. The Yishuv leadership became aware of the proportions of the Holocaust only in 1942. Ch. 1 (pp. 21-72) contains documents from the period 1939-42; the remaining chapters present documents from 1942-45.
