Austrian attitudes toward Jews, Israel, and the Holocaust

Summarizes the survey conducted by the Gallup Institute of Austria in the summer of 1991. It showed that substantial portions of the Austrian population have strong negative attitudes toward Jews; sympathy for Israel and Zionism are low. A majority of Austrians believe that it is time to forget the Holocaust. Attitudes toward Jews, Israel, and remembrance of the Holocaust were more positive among younger respondents, among the better educated, and among residents of Vienna. Compares the results of the Austrian survey to surveys conducted by the American Jewish Committee in 1990-91 in both Germanies and in Eastern Europe.
