Talmud y cristianismo

From the 12th century onward, Christian apologists focused the theological confrontation with Judaism on the teachings of the Talmud, which they believed to be the factor impeding the Jews' conversion to Christianity. In written works and oral disputations, the Church tried to persuade the Jews of the errors contained in the Talmud, using arguments such as that the Jews equated the authority of the Talmud to that of the Bible, as the oral expression of divine revelation; that the Talmud contained expressions of anthropomorphism attributed to God; that it stood in contradiction to the law of Moses and human morality; that it was irreverent regarding Jesus and Mary; and that it proposed a discriminatory social and juridical relationship to Christians. The disputations and polemics resulted in persecutions throughout Europe until the 17th century. They consisted of restrictions in circulation of the Talmud, censure of its contents, prohibition of its printing, and burning of exemplars.
