Memoirs of a Jew from Belgrade, born in 1927. Describes the German invasion in April 1941 and the hardships which followed, including anti-Jewish laws, forced labor, and food shortages. Lebl's father, who was drafted into the Yugoslav army, was taken prisoner, her brother joined a partisan group, and her mother was deported and killed. Lebl escaped to Niš, where she had lived for a while, and hid with a former teacher who was an active member of the underground. The two were later betrayed by an informer. Lebl was arrested, tortured, and deported to a labor camp in Germany. She escaped, but was caught and taken to another camp, and later sent to a prison in Berlin, where she was eventually liberated. She returned to Belgrade, as did her father and brother; in 1954 she immigrated to Israel.
