Tote auf Urlaub

Memoirs of a Jewish communist, born in 1914 in Frankfurt, who was interned from 1937-45 in Dachau and Buchenwald. Claims that the passive resistance of the members of the prisoners' committee in Buchenwald, most of whom were German communists, protected Jewish prisoners from the death march on 4 April 1945, saving the lives of 3,000 Jews. Describes the revolt of the political prisoners on 11 April 1945; they captured 100 SS-officers and handed them over to the American soldiers who liberated the camp.
