Going to Poland on a summer vacation with his family where in 1939 he witnessed the Nazi horrors. Barely making it to go back to Brussels to his studies. Telling about occurrences there but Belgian Jews claimed this could only happen in Poland. Escaping to France when the Nazis entered Belgium where he pretended to be a Christian and was an agriculturalist for a year. When people begun to suspect his identity returning to Belgium. When order was given that youths should be sent to labor in Malines camp active in search for hideaways. Assisted by fellow students as well as Christians and communists who also helped counterfeit papers. Actions opposing Judenrat recommendations to go to Malines camp, the Judenrat collaborating with the Germans. Attempts to relocate youths to Switzerland. At one time caught and put in prison. Not familiar with the Jewish Belgian underground's activities though some of the actions like smuggling the borders or search for hideaways was identical.
