מחבר הלחן מזוהה לעתים כאלכסנדר ז'יטומירסקי (Shitomirski או Zhitomirsky) אך למעשה ז'יטומירסקי רק עיבד את השיר למקהלה ולפסנתר בנוסח שנדפס בשירון היידי-עברי הנפוץ לידער-זאמעלבוך (סנקט-פטרבורג, 1911). ללחן זיקה מובהקת לחלקים השני והשלישי של ניגון חב"ד הידוע כ"הוא אלוקינו". השיר תורגם והפך לשיר עברי על ידי קיפניס בשנת 1929. |
