Piyut Interpretation

  • • וּמִי יַעֲמֹד חֵטְא אִם־תִּשְׁמֹר – מי יוכל להתקיים ולחיות אם האל יזכור את החטאים ולא ימחל להם? מבוסס על תהלים קל, ג: "אִם-עֲו?ֹנוֹת תִּשְׁמָר-יָהּ – אֲדֹנָי, מִי יַעֲמֹד"
    • וּמִי יָקוּם דִּין אִם־תִּגְמֹר – מקביל לצלע הקודמת, אף אחד לא יוכל להתקיים אם האל ימצה את הדין.
    • הַסְּלִיחָה עִמְּךָ – על פי תהלים קל, ד: "כִּי-עִמְּךָ הַסְּלִיחָה"
    • לִכְמֹר – לרחם. מידתו של האל היא לעורר את רחמיו ולכבוש את כעסו.
    • רְאֵה וְאַל־תַּכְלִים – כלומר, התבונן בעליבות שלנו ומחל לנו, אל תוביש אותנו.
    • דַּֽעַת נְתִיב דְּרָכֶֽיךָ חֶפְצֵֽנוּ תַשְׁלִים – בקשה מהאל למלא את הרצון לדעת את דרכיו. אפשר להסביר שדרכים אלו הן הסליחה והמחילה, ולכן הבקשה להכיר את דרכי האל היא למעשה בקשה לסליחה.
    • גִּבּוֹרֵי כֹֽחַ – גיבורי הכח הם ישראל (על פי תהלים קג, כ. אם כי שם מדובר במלאכים ולא בבני אדם).
    • בְּצִלְּךָ שֶֽׁבֶת שָׁבִים – כינוי לישראל, על-פי הושע יד, ח.
    • יַפְרִֽיחוּ – יפרחו, ישגשגו , כמו בתקבולת שבתהלים צב, יג "צַדִּיק כַּתָּמָר יִפְרָח כְּאֶרֶז בַּלְּבָנוֹן יִשְׂגֶּה".
    • וְלֹא־יוֹסִֽיפוּ לְדַאֲבָה – להתאבל, לכאוב. על פי ירמיהו לא, יא.
    • מַדְהֵבָה – מילה המקבילה ל"נוגש", כינוי לאומה הגורמת דאבון, ואולי נגזר מן המילה הארמית "דהב" – זהב, במשמעות עם הגוזל ושודד זהב. (ישעיהו יד, ד)
