Description:

Paix et Droit was the official journal of the organization L'Alliance israélite universelle (AIU) and the continuation of ⁨ Bulletin de l'Alliance Israélite Universelle⁩ , which was published in Paris from 1860 to 1913. Founded in 1860, the AIU was the first international Jewish organization; it operated to defend the rights of Jews throughout the world and simultaneously established a network of schools throughout the Mediterranean Basin, the Near East, and the Balkan countries. Through this educational network, the AIU sought to provide its students with the foundations of western culture in general and French culture in particular. Following the political upheaval of World War I, the AIU restructured its activities, participating in peace-agreement discussions and concentrating on the defense of Jewish interests in the face of anti-Semitism. After the war, the number of AIU schools stabilized at about 130.

Paix et Droit, in addition to reflecting the activities of the AIU, created an expansive forum for the expression of opinions on international Jewish subjects. The journal extensively described the violent incidents of anti-Semitism in European nations and revealed the first indications of fascism in Germany, long before Hitler's rise to power. The journal ceased to appear on the eve of the German invasion of France in March 1940.
