Description:
Al-Liwaa (The Banner) was a daily political newspaper published in Jerusalem between 1935 and 1937. The paper’s publisher was Jamal al-Husseini, its manager was Khalid al-Farakh, and the editors were Emil Ghoury and George Salah al-Khoury, who was also an editor of al-Lahab. During the two years of its publication, Al-Liwaa covered local news and news received by wireless from all over the world. Al-Liwaa was considered to be a newspaper affiliated with the al-Husseini family. In his opening article, Jamal al-Husseini said of the paper: “Al-Liwaa is the voice of truth and principle. It cannot be worthy of the truth unless it steers clear of obscene language, steers clear of insults and resentment. And its principles cannot be otherwise than lofty and magnanimous.”
