⁨⁨Al-‘Arab⁩ - ⁨العرب⁩⁩

An illustrated weekly newspaper, al-'Arab focused on the affairs of the Arab and Islamic world.

The first issue was published on August 27, 1932 (partly in color and partly in black and white). The paper is easily recognized by its symbol, a map of Palestine, Iraq, Egypt, the Arabian Peninsula and North Africa.

Among al-‘Arab’s writers were many prominent authors and intellectuals. One of these was Muhammad 'Izzat Darwaza, whose contributions to the newspaper’s early issues include the important article “The Modern Awakening of Arab Nationalism.” The newspaper voiced a critical attitude toward the policies of fragmentation whereby Arab countries focused only on their own internal problems and the affairs of neighboring Arab countries. It called for the defense of freedom, independence and unity among Arab countries.
