Description:
The daily newspaper "HaMashkif" began its systematic publication in January of 1939 (after a few experimental editions that were published in themonth previous to its regular run) as the newspaper of the Revisionist Movement in Eretz Yisrael, in place of the newspaper, "HaYarden" which was shut down after the Mandate government began tracking its movements. In the last years of his life, Ze'ev Jabotinsky regularly published his articles in the newspaper. Other prominent contributors included A.B.A Achiamar, Izik Ramba, who also served as the editor for most of the years the newspaper was in existence, Shalom Rosenfeld, Samuel Schnitzer and Moses Zak, who served as the editorial secretaries and who eventually were among the founders of the newspaper "Maariv", in "HaMashkif"'s last year. For as long as it was in print, the newspaper served as the unofficial platform for the Irgun even after it split with Lekh"i, and as a result of this was the target of the British secret police. "HaMashkif" was published for ten years. At the end of 1948 a new newspaper called "Herut" took its place as as the mouthpiece of the Revisionist Party, which had united to form the HaHerut party, until it was finally shut down in 1949
