| שיר זה מתאר את עבודת הפרך ואת הייסורים בקרב הפועלים המהגרים בבתי היזע בארצות הברית בתחילת המאה העשרים. השיר פורסם בשנת 1904 באוסף שיריו של מוריס רוזנפלד, "געזאמעלטע לידער". עובדה זו מפריכה את הדיעה שהשיר נכתב ב-1911 בעקבות שרפה באחד מבתי היזע בניו יורק, המכונה Triangle Factory Fire, בה נספו 146 פועלים, רובם מהגרים יהודים ואיטלקים. |
