il est à 83 mètres au-dessus du niveau de la Méditerannée. Il est entouré de marais peuplés de pélicans et de canards, où se vautrent les buffles des Bédouins. Du côté Nord, les papyrus forment un fourre impénétrable. Ce lac a été regardé comme le Khoul araméen, Gen., X., 23. Josué battit sur ses bords les Cananéens alliés de Jabin, roi d'Hazor, Josué, XI.
