Description The red Torah mantle consists of a cloak and a lining. The rectangular cloth cloak is made of two parts which are attached at the upper border leaving two openings for Torah Scroll rods. The cloak bears at its center a dedicatory inscription inside a medallion of a lily-like pattern. The inscription reads: "לזכרון נשמות אבותיהם כ"ה )כבוד הרב( מאיר חיים גראס ואשתו מרת זלדא ע'ה נדבוהו בניהם ובנותיהם תרס"ה לפק" "In memory of the souls of their fathers the honourable Rabbi(int.) Meir Haim Gruss and his wife Mrs. Zelda, may she rest in peace (int.) it was dedicated by their sons and daughters (5)665 (=1905)" The medallion with the dedicatory inscription is surmounted by an appliqued crown flanked by the inscription: "כ' ת "' "Crown of Torah (int.)" The cloak is framed by a foliate pattern, and is decorated with a background design of stars. The inscriptions, stars, and foliate frame are all embroidered in couching technique.
