"בבבל, על גדת נהר הפרת, במאה השלישית לספירה, חיה ילתא, 'נסיכה' יהודייה, ששמה המלא - איילת. את עלילת חייה רוקמת רוחמה וייס. בכוח אישיותה שרדה ילתא את המסננות האכזריות של הזמן והמגדר, וספרות התלמוד הקדישה לסיפורי חייה כמה מסורות. אם משלבים במסורות אלה את העדויות התלמודיות הרבות אודות משפחתה נרקם סיפור חיים מרתק. ילתא הייתה אישה אמיצה, דעתנית ויצרית, בתו של ראש הגולה היהודית, ואשתו של רב נחמן, מנכבדי החכמים והדיינים הבבליים. חייה הארוכים של ילתא ידעו תפנוקים, אהבות עזות כמוות, מלחמה, אובדן ובדידות. לנפתולי חייה אנו זוכים להתוודע הודות לאיגרות ששלחה אל דינוה, חברת נפשה שהוגלתה על ידי התדמוריים מבבל לארץ ישראל. ילתא - רומן תלמודי מציע שני ניסיונות חלוציים; רומן היסטורי על תקופת התלמוד הבבלי, והתבוננות על התלמוד ומורשתו מנקודת מבטה של אישה בת התקופה. מה היינו יודעים על ההיסטוריה לו נשים היו מתעדות בכתובים את חייהן? ברומן זה תופסים חיי היהודיות-הבבליות את מרכז הבמה ואילו חכמי התלמוד הופכים לבני לוויה." -- כריכה אחורית.
