Discusses the narratives presented by Holocaust survivors in in-depth interviews conducted by the author in Israel and the U.S. and analyzed by her with the aid of three psychoanalysts experienced in the treatment of survivors. The subjects were children or teenagers at the time of their concentration camp experience. Reproduces and analyzes in detail three (out of fifteen) interviews, examining survival strategies and the psychological impact of the experience at the time and in later life. Reflects on methods of interpretation and on the meaning for the subject of the act of narration.
