"אמיקה צ'ן מעריצה את הידאוֹ טנקה המיליארדר הצעיר שהמציא את משחק וורקרוס. זהו משחק שבו המשתתפים נכנסים לתוך מציאות וירטואלית והופכים לשותפים לתחרויות מסמרות שיער ולמתחרים שטופי דם ויזע. בניגוד להידאו טנקה העשיר, אמיקה היא ציידת ראשים ענייה, אין לה עבודה קבועה, ובעל הבית עומד לסלק אותה מהדירה העלובה שלה. ברגע של חולשה, וכדי לזכות ברווח מהיר, אמיקה פורצת אל תוך משחק הפתיחה של טורניר וורקרוס הגדול. היא חושבת שהיא סמויה, אבל טעות קטנה אחת חושפת את הזהות שלה לעיני כול. אמיקה מחכה שיבואו לאסור אותה, אבל אז מגיעה ההפתעה האמיתית: הידאו טנקה רוצה שהיא תהיה לצידו, ויש לו משימה בשבילה. מרגע זה אמיקה נקלעת למציאות של עושר וכוח, זוכה לתשומת לב מבלבלת מהרווק המבוקש בעולם, ובמקביל, יורדת לעומקו האפל של המשחק. מי רוצה להרוס את הבוס החדש שלה ואת האימפריה העצומה שבנה? ככל שאמיקה חופרת, התשובות מתרחקות והסכנה מתקרבת." -- המעטפת האחורית.
