"שירלי משה, אמא צעירה שהדאגה העיקרית שלה היא איך להתחמק מהבוס התובעני שלה כדי להגיע בזמן לילדים, מגלה שהיא נשאית של הגן האחראי לסרטן השד וסרטן השחלה. מאותו רגע חייה של שירלי עולים על מסלול סוער, מאתגר ואמיץ, שנע בין הדאגה לאמה שחלתה בסרטן לבין הדאגה לעצמה כנשאית של אותו הגן. סיפורה של שירלי כתוב ברגישות רבה, ובמידה בריאה של הומור שבוקע דרך אינספור הדאגות והחרדות. זהו סיפור עוצמתי על אימהות, משפחה ופרידה בלתי נמנעת, אך הוא גם מלא נחישות ותקווה שניתן לשנות את הגורל שמכתיבה הגנטיקה. גֵנים טובים מציג את ההתלבטות הקשה של נשים רבות לגבי השאלה המורכבת: מה אני מוכנה לעשות על מנת שלא לחלות בסרטן? העלילה מבוססת על סיפורה האישי של הסופרת, אשר עברה בעצמה את המסלול של שירלי ואיבדה את אמה, שחלתה בסרטן השחלה. גֵנים טובים נע בין דמיון למציאות, שמתערבבים זה בזה ויוצרים סיפור אישי ורגיש". -- מהמעטפת האחורית.
