"הכול התחיל כשחזרתי הביתה. זאת הייתה הפעם הראשונה אחרי עשר שנים, וכשנכנסתי פנימה גיליתי שקצת איחרתי - אמא שלי נעלמה. בבית הריק מדי נשארו מעט מאוד רמזים שיסבירו מה קרה: פתק על המקרר בשפה שאני לא מכירה, שביל של עצב ישן, וכמה תמונות שצילמה אלונה, שגרה בדירה ממול. אלונה טוענת שאפשר לראות בתמונות את העתיד, אבל אני חושבת שגם היא לא ידעה מה עומד לקרות: שנמצא את עצמנו על רכבת ששועטת עמוק אל תוך מרחבי הטייגה בסיביר, כשבחוץ סוגר עלינו חורף קפוא, ובפנים הקרונות מתמלאים באוסף של אנשים, שפות ומסעות. במסדרונות הצפופים נוסעים איתנו גם סודות ושתיקות בני שישים שנה ויותר, ובמעברים מהדהדות רכבות אחרות, רכבות מלחמה ישנות. ועדיין, אני לא יודעת לאן אמא שלי נסעה ואם אי פעם אפגוש אותה שוב. אני רק יודעת שהרכבת דוהרת קדימה, וכבר אי אפשר יותר לעצור. זהו סיפור על דברים שרוצים לשכוח, אבל חייבים לזכור. זהו סיפור על אהבה, אבל על זה אני לא יכולה לגלות עכשיו יותר. וזהו סיפור שמתחיל בבית, אבל צריך לעבור דרך ארוכה כדי לחזור אליו באמת"--מן המעטפת האחורית.
