"עורו הישראלים אנחנו בני הארץ הזאת. איננו בני גלויות ולא בני דתות, לא בני עדות ולא נאמני מפלגות. בימים אלה, לנוכח השנאה והפרנויה השבות ומרימות את ראשן הפוליטי, לנוכח הגלותיות וההתבדלות של חרדים מזה ומתמזרחים מזה, ולנוכח ההתפוררות הערכית המואצת של החברה בארץ - ברוח אחדות התרבות והמקום, בהמשך לדרכם של טשרנחובסקי ורטוש, אני מפנה קריאה זו אליכם, יוצרי השירה הישראלית: אליך, שמורשת הארץ הזאת לבדה היא מורשתך, ותולדותיה הן תולדות זהותך, אליך, שלבך ודעתך כבר השילו מעליהם את כבלי הרבנות מזה ואת כבלי הציונות מזה, אליך, שהארץ הזאת היא שלך כפי שהיא - לא כפתרון ליהדות העולם ולא כחזון דתי, אליך, ששפתך העברית היא שפת מחשבותיך, רגשותיך ודיבורך. אם גם שירתכם באה להסיר את מחיצות המחשבה שבּנוּ בינינו הלאומנות, הדת והגזענות העדתית, להעמיק את שורשינו התרבותיים בארץ הזאת, וללמוד ממורשתה העברית הקדומה, לאחד אותנו כבניה, לרפא את שסעיה, לקרב את הלבבות, וליצור את עתידנו מתוך שותפות החיים והתקווה של הארץ הזאת - השמיעו אתנו את קולכם, קולם של הישראלים, בני הארץ". -- מהמעטפת האחורית.
