"זהו סיפור חייו של אריה זיידמן ומשפחתו, סיפור ההישרדות בשנות מלחמת העולם השנייה, שלו ושל חלק ניכר ממשפחתו, סיפור העלייה ארצה וההיבנות בה. יש בסיפור געגוע עמוק אל העולם שהיה, ולצדו הכרת תודה לכוחות שסייעו בבניית חיים חדשים בארץ ישראל. מעבר לסיפור המשפחתי נפרשת כאן אישיותו המיוחדת של אריה. אדם שאוהב ומעריך הומור, שתמיד יודע לעטר את השיחה בבדיחה מתאימה ולהעלות חיוך על שפתיים; איש חכם ורגיש היודע לנתח מצבים ולראות את הנולד; ציוני בנשמתו; איש חריף שכל וחרוץ, שעבד במסירות ולאורך עשרות שנים ב"מעריב", עוד מימיו הראשונים של העיתון, ואף מילא בו תפקיד מרכזי; איש משפחה מסור ואוהב. לצד כל אלה זהו סיפורו של יהודי גאה שמורשת התרבות היהודית יקרה ללבו. 'צריך לשמר את המסורת היהודית המפוארת', אומר אריה כמסר לדורות הבאים, והוא מוסיף הערה קטנה לסיום: 'המתרחקים מהמסורת מפסידים הרבה הומור'"--מן הכריכה האחורית.
