"לימודי המוגבלות הנו תחום אקדמי חדשני ומרתק, המציע להתבונן במוגבלות כמושג חברתי, כזהות, כקטגוריה לניתוח ביקורתי וכבסיס לפעולה פוליטית, מתוך תפיסה טרנספורמטיבית המתגלמת במעבר מהגישה הרפואית, או גישת הטרגדיה האישית, אל הגישה החברתית-ביקורתית והמבקשת לשנות את פני החברה והתרבות, ומציעה תפיסה חלופית המבוססת על הכרה, מגוון אנושי, תלות הדדית, גאווה ושוויון זכויות. המקראה היא פרי עבודתה של קבוצת מחקר שפעלה במכון ון ליר בירושלים בשנים 2009-2012. מטרת הקבוצה הייתה לקדם את השיח הביקורתי האקדמי בישראל על מוגבלות וליצור תשתית בין-תחומית לחשיבה תיאורטית ומחקרית בנושא. לצורך זה כונסו בספר חמישה עשר מאמרים מרכזיים בתחום, מתורגמים לעברית, שנכתבו בתקופות שונות זו מזו ממגוון נקודות מבט. המאמרים מלווים בהארות ובתגובות של כותבים וכותבות ישראלים, רבים מהם אנשים ונשים עם מוגבלויות". -- מעטפת אחורית.
