"ספר זה נועד להציב הבנה תיאורטית-פסיכואנליטית חדשה ורחבה ביחס לגיל בית הספר, הוא גיל החביון, אשר כוללת גם הבנה רגשית חדשה לתופעת הדחייה החברתית הנפוצה בגיל זה. הספר נכתב בתקופה שבה ההתייחסות התיאורטית-פסיכואנליטית אל נושאים אלו היא מועטה ביותר. נסקרו בו המחקרים והידע שנצברו עד כה בספרות המקצועית בנושאים אלו, ולאחר מכן הוצבה ראייה תיאורטית חדשה ביחס לגיל החביון ולתופעת הדחייה החברתית. בספר מוצגת שיטת טיפול קצרת טווח ("שיטת המעטפות") בילדים דחויים בחברה, וכמו כן מתוארים כמה מקרים של טיפולים בשיטת המעטפות. ; חנה גרפי-פישר מציגה בספר זה פרדיגמה רגשית אשר בה גיל החביון ודחייה חברתית אינם נפרדים ונבדלים זה מזה, שכן הדחייה החברתית הנה אינהרנטית בשלב ההתפתחותי של גיל החביון. על פי פרדיגמה זו, בשלב ההתפתחותי של גיל החביון מתחוללת התפתחות פנים-נפשית בעלת משמעות. פגיעה, חסך או שבר רגשי בשלבי התפתחותו הרגשית הקודמים של הילד עלולים לגרום לשיבוש ההתפתחות הרגשית בגיל החביון, והדבר יתבטא ב"דחייה חברתית" קשה". -- מעטפת אחורית.
