הספר שלפנינו אינו מבקש לגולל את סיפורה של העדה הדרוזית למן ראשית ימיה, ואף לא את סיפור הברית שכרתו בניה עם מדינת ישראל. כל שהוא מבקש הוא לפתוח צוהר לקורא העברי אל פרשיות ופרקים נעלמים בסיפור "מעשה המרכבה" הדרוזי כפי שהלך ונבנה לאורך אלף השנים האחרונות, ושאחד משיאיו הוא ללא ספק ההתיישבות הדרוזית בארץ ישראל וסיפורו של הקשר המיוחד שנרקם בינם לבין הישוב היהודי ולימים עם מדינת ישראל. זהו ספר מרתק, ספר חשוב מאין כמוהו. פרי הילולים המהוה בעצמו נדבך "במעשה המרכבה" של הכותב. שהרי הספר מתוסף לשורה של מחקרים קודמים של שמעון אביבי החוברים יחדיו לשרטט תמונה מלאה ועשירה של תולדות הדרוזים במדינת ישראל. הספר נכתב ברגישות ובאהבה רבה בידי בר סמכא שהקדיש את חייו הבוגרים לחקר העדה ולהעמקת ההבנה בין הציבור היהודי לבין הדרוזים אזרחי מדינת ישראל. על כך ראוי הספר וראוי מחברו לכל שבח-- כריכה אחורית
