"ספר חלוצי זה עוסק בשירת ה'חנין' (געגועים) והקינה על הערים בשירה הערבית ובשירה העברית באנדלוסיה המוסלמית במאות ה-11 וה-12. הספר מתמקד ביצירתם של ארבעה משוררים בני אותה תקופה: שני מוסלמים - אבן חמדיס יליד סיציליה (1132-1050) ואבן ח'פאג'ה (1138-1158); ושני יהודים - משה אבן עזרא (1138-1085) ויהודה הלוי (1141-1075). ההתחקות על יסודות הקינה והגעגועים, למן השירה הערבית הקדומה ועד לתקופה האנדלוסית, בהשוואה לשירה העברית באנדלוסיה, מוכיחה שמשה אבן עזרא ויהודה הלוי, שהושפעו רבות מן השירה הערבית והפואטיקה שלה, שילבו בשירתם מוטיבים ויסודות רבים שמקורם בסוגת החנין". - כריכה אחורית.
