"In order to track if and how survivors' narratives have changed and evolved over time, Testimony and time compares their indivudal accounts given at different phases in their lives. This book examines the longitudinal development of individual survivor testimony, in order to identify if the changing context influences and shapes survivors' accounts of their past"--Back cover. ; Presents a comparison of 15 early Holocaust interviews (carried out soon after the war, ten of them by David Boder in 1946) and interviews of the same 15 survivors conducted after 1980 in various locations. In the 2000s, Cohen herself interviewed the ten survivors who had spoken with Boder. Analyzes these accounts in terms of what is remembered and how it is presented. Dwells on the testimonies of Yehuda Bacon, a survivor from Czechoslovakia, who was interviewed by Yad Vashem twice: in 1959 and in 1981, as well as on the testimonies of child survivors who were re-interviewed at a later period. Comparison of these interviews reveals the resilience of the memory of the Holocaust events; what has changed is the presentation of the testimony and of the self, conditioned by the change in the age, by the social experience, and also by the person of the interviewer.
