"ככל שנעלמים פרדסי ארץ ישראל הישנה והטובה ומוסבים לאדמות נדל"ן, נעלם עמם עולם הערכים של משפחת פרדסנים עשירה. באין לאבי השבט, הענק האחרון, מי שימשיך את דרכו, מתייבשים הפרדסים. הקרקע נאמדת בהון עתק, ומעוררת מלחמות ירושה קשות ואכזריות. סביב הפרדסן הישיש ומשׁרתו הפיליפיני המופקד על המנגל, מבלים בני המשפחה המורחבת באחוזתם הגדולה את יום העצמאות האחרון, כשבראש מעייניהם הממון והבשר. מותו הקרוב של הפרדסן האחרון מעורר מְדָנִים שראשיתם בבתי משפט, וסופם נעדר חמלה. נוגעת ללב בת המשפחה, יורדת השבה אחרי שנים מארצות הברית ומקווה להיטיב את חייה דווקא בישראל. היא מתאכזבת כשמבינה כי העושר הגדול של משפחתה מדלג עליה, ומי שאין לו דירה קטנה או מכונית משומשת חשוב כמת או כמהגר סודני. דווקא על רקע מלחמת "צוק איתן" והלווית אם המשפחה הנערכת בין אזעקה לאזעקה, היא מוצאת נחמה באמונתה העמוקה בארץ ישראל" -- מן המעטפת האחורית.
