"בבוקר אחד של ספטמבר מתעוררת רות וסמן הקשישה לקול חבילה המובאת אל דלתה. בפנים היא מוצאת מחברת קטנה ממורטטת. היא פותחת את דפיה העדינים ונשטפת זיכרונות … השנה היא 1933, ורות נמצאת בדירתה המוארת בברלין. הנס מכין קוקטיילים, שלג יורד מחוץ לחלון המטבח, והיטלר נושא את נאומו הראשון כקנצלר של גרמניה. חיי כולם עומדים להשתנות לבלי הכר. בשל התנגדותם לשלטון הנאצי, רות והנס הופכים בן לילה לפושעים נרדפים ונמלטים מגרמניה לאנגליה. אך עם כל צעד אמיץ עוצר נשימה וכל אדם שהם שמים את מבטחם בו, הם מסתכנים בעל כורחם גם במעילה באמונם. ואז, יום אחד, הם ניצבים בפני ההבנה המקפיאת-דם, שידו של היטלר מגעת רחוק הרבה יותר מכפי שהעלו בדעתם, אפילו עד לונדון עצמה. מעורר השראה, טראגי ומבוסס על מאורעות אמיתיים: כל מה שאני הוא רומן רב–עוצמה על אומץ לב ובגידה, על הסיכונים שאנשים נוטלים והקורבנות שהם מקריבים על מזבח אמונותיהם, ועל גילויי גבורה יוצאי דופן במקומות הפחות צפויים מכול" -- מן המעטפת האחורית.
