"'נפש הקולנוע' עוסק בניתוח יסודי ומעמיק של הקולנוע כראי לנפש האדם. הספר דן בסוגיות כגון: היחס בין הקולנוע לאמנות, לשירה, למוזיקה וליופי; כוחו הפרדוקסלי של הקולנוע במגע עם האמת מחד גיסא וביצירת כזב מאידך גיסא; הגיבור הקולנועי; כריזמת הפרסונה של השחקן; הטוטליות של הקולנוע וסכנותיו; ההיבט המוסרי של הקולנוע; הקולנוע כמרחב מעבר בין דמיון למציאות; הקולנוע כמטפורה והמבט הפוסטמודרני. הספר בוחן ארבעה מוטיבים מרכזיים אשר פועלים בנפש האדם ובחברה: הנשי והגברי, הרוע, גיבורי-על והקורבן הגואל. כל מוטיב מתגלה במפורט בעיצובו הייחודי בעולם הקולנוע. כמו בספרי העיון הקודמים של המחברת, גם בספר זה נפרש המבט היונגיאני. נצר מתייחסת להיבטים הארכיטיפיים והמיתולוגיים של תהליכי הנפש ומראה לנו כיצד היבטים אלא מתגלמים בפועל בקולנוע, אשר הפך לתחליף למיתוס ולאגדות, ובמידה רבה גם לספרות. פעולת של הלא-מודע הקולקטיבי והלא-מודע התרבותי כאחד מעמיקים את הבנת הקולנוע ומעצימים את חוויית הצפייה בו". -- מעטפת אחורית.
