"החפרפר, הקרפד, התחש ועכברוש-המים - אלה ארבעת הידידים, גיבוריו של הרוח בערבי הנחל שנכתב על ידי הסופר האנגלי קנת גרהם ותורגם לעברית בידי המשורר יונתן רטוש. כל אחד מפרקי הספר יש בו הרפקתה נפרדת ומושלמת בה נוטלים חלק ארבעת שוכני השדה; הם מפליגים בסירות, עורכים פיקניקים משותפים בחיק הטבע, סועדים בפאר בארמון הקרפד, מאבדים דרכם ביער-הפרא ואפילו מצליחים לפגוש פעם אחת ויחידה את המחלל בשערי השחר. הרוח בערבי הנחל הפך כבר מזמן להיות אחד הספרים האהובים ביותר שבכל הזמנים. הוא הומחז, הוסרט לסידרת טלוויזיה, ובאנגליה ובארצות הברית הופיע במאה וחמישים מהדורות בקירוב. סופר הנודע א.א. מילן, מחברם של ספרי פו הדב, כתב עליו: "ספר זה כמוהו כמבחן האופי. אין אנו יכולים למתוח עליו ביקורת, שכן הוא מותח עלינו ביקורת... ייתכן שתהיה ראוי לספר, אינני יודע ואולם אתה הוא העומד לדין." -- מן המעטפת האחורית.
