"הודעה שגרתית בעניין חיוב ריבית רבעונית שנשלחה אלי מסניף הבנק עוררה רצף של התרחשויות ואירועים בחייהם של אנשים רבים, ובעיקר שינתה לחלוטין את מהלך חיי שלי." באמצע שנות השמונים, עקב טעות חישוב של ריביות בבנק ולאחר שלא הצליח לקבל תשובה מספקת לגבי צורת החישוב מנהל הסניף שבו מתנהל חשבונו, ייסד אמנון שורץ מתוך תחושת שליחות את "חברת שגיא", אשר מתמקדת במאבק בליקויי התנהלות הבנקים בישראל; ליקויים שמקורם בטעויות טכניות, כמו גם חיובי יתר שנעשו שלא כדין ובניגוד גמור לתקנות הבנקאות ולחוקיה. סיפורה של "חברת שגיא" מובא לקורא באמצעות מקרים מרתקים של לקוחות אשר נאלצו להתמודד עם הבנקים בין כותלי בתי המשפט ומחוץ להם, ואף ניצחו. דרך עיניו של המחבר, אמנון שורץ, חושפת הקריאה בספר את מה שמתחולל במסדרונות ובמשרדי הבנקים - מאחורי הקלעים של עולם הכספים המכובד. בתקופה של כעשרים ושמונה שנים ובעקבות פועלה של "חברת שגיא", שונו כללי בנקאות עקרוניים, ניתנו פסקי דין תקדימיים רבים, והבנקים השיבו ללקוחות מיליארדי שקלים בגין גביית יתר"--מן הכריכה האחורית.
