'בתחילת שנות ה-70, כתב בפעם הראשונה ד"ר מיורי בואן אודות המושג: "מובחנות של העצמי", כמושג ייחודי המתאר את תהליך התפתחותו של האדם כבעל אישיות אותנטית ומובחנת ממשפחתו. במאמרו "אנונימי" הוא הסביר תהליך נפשי מרכזי ומורכב זה, תוך הדגמה ע"י תיאור חושפני אמיץ ויוצא דופן, של התפתחותו האישית בסבך יחסיו עם משפחתו שלו. הבנה של תהליך התפתחותי זה היוותה מהפכה בפסיכולוגיה של הפרט, הזוג, המשפחה, יחסי החברות והעבודה. בפעם הראשונה מפורסם בישראל מאמר ייחודי זה, מתורגם בעברית, בתוך אסופת מאמרים שכולל ספר זה. מתברר, שלאורך השנים הפכה ישראל למדינה מובילה במחקר ובטיפול על בסיס התאוריה של בואן. לצד תרגום מאמרו של בואן, ומאמר של פרופ. סקאורון, הנחשבת דמות מובילה בעולם בתחום, מוצגים בספר גם מאמרים ישראלים עדכנים המתארים את ההתפתחויות התיאורטיות והמחקריות של התאוריה של בואן, ואף מאמרים המציגים את דרך העבודה של הטיפול הזוגי והמשפחתי בישראל, הנשען על התאוריה של בואן'. -- מהמעטפת האחורית.
